Wakeboards

Wakeboarding is a sport that was created from 3 different sports. It took water skiing, snowboarding and surfing and put them all together to equal one really spectacular sport to participate in and watch.

Like water skiing, the rider is towed with a tow rope and can move in and out of the wake of boat doing neat tricks and maneuvers. Some have taken it to the extreme and instead of using a boat to tow them they used the equivalent of a large kite to pull them along and jump and perform maneuvers in the waves.

There are many different styles of wakeboarding a rider can choose. In general though, those that are going to be performing aerial stunts and maneuvers will probably want to stick with a shorter board since longer boards are harder to maneuver. Most of the boards manufactured today, include fins and are usually made out of carbon fiber composites.

Wakeboarding became a popular sport in the early 1990s and early wakeboards were fashioned much like a surfboard. The early boards and bindings made it more difficult to perform some of the great maneuvers riders can do today.

It is believed that wakeboarding was first attempted by a New Zealander surfer who dubbed the board a skurf. The actual term of wakeboard was thought up by Porter Daughtry along with the new concepts and wakeboard designs.

Wakeboarding is now more popular than water skiing in some areas and the younger crowd finds it more comfortable than riding two skis.

When looking to buy a used wakeboard, you need to first decide on what you plan to do with it. Are going to just use it to be towed and not really attempt any aerial stunts or are you going to be the next Xgamer and attempt stunts that will boggle spectator’s minds.
